On November 30th, during Timeshifted Week at mtg.com, Adrian Sullivan wrote an article that was more of a look at his history as a Magic Player including his infamous Baron Harkonen deck from the late 90's. At the end of the article he left this decklist to ponder, which includes his favorite card, and one of mine, Gaea's Blessing:
// Lands (24)
4 Breeding Pool
5 Island
1 Mikokoro, Center of the Sea
1 Minamo, School at Water's Edge
1 Miren, the Moaning Well
2 Overgrown Tomb
4 Polluted Delta
1 Simic Growth Chamber
1 Swamp
1 Urza's Factory
1 Vesuva
2 Watery Grave
// Artifacts (3)
3 Vedalken Shackles
// Creatures (6)
2 Twisted Abomination
4 Wall of Roots
// Enchantments (4)
4 Pernicious Deed
// Spells (23)
4 Counterspell
2 Divert
4 Fact or Fiction
2 Gaea's Blessing
1 Gifts Ungiven
2 Hinder
4 Remand
1 Spell Burst
2 Stifle
1 Voidslime
// Sideboard (15)
---TBD---
X Hail Storm ?
X Naturalize ?
X Pithing Needle ?
X Tormod's Crypt?
[/color]
As of yet the deck has no solid sideboard. I've been testing a bit with a junk sideboard but I would like to begin formally testing the deck and post the results here. Ideally, with more testing I will be able to figure out more which cards I want to make up the sideboard with and what changes I want to make to the deck.
The strategy of the deck is quite straight-forward. Prevent your opponent from doing anything, Pernicious Deed away anything he does put into play, and then win by either hardcasting Twisted Abomination or using Vedalken Shackles on one of your opponent's creatures.
Gaea's Blessing helps recur everything in the deck so you can go forever.
Gauntlet Results:
Boros Deck Wins
Aggro Loam
Friggorid
U/W Tron
Scepter Chant
Desire/TEPS
Tooth & Nail
Flow Rock
7 Jan vs. CJ:
CJ wrecked me in two straight games opening with a turn 3 Flow in game one and a turn 2 Flow in game 2. I was never able to stabilize and Cabal Therapies were the icing on the cake. I had no sideboard against Flow except if I could play Wipe Away to bounce it but I never did. Some enchantment hate could have helped so I wouldn't have to rely on Pernicious Deed to get rid of Destructive Flow. I don't think running less Non-Basic lands is a good idea and I don't want to run 1cc counterspells like Force Spike.
